Burning the Days – James Salter

James Salter (1925–2015) is admired by many writers as one of the finest stylists in American literature. In this memoir, first published in 1997, he looks back on his remarkable life.

He recalls his training at West Point, his time as a fighter pilot in the Korean War, his years in the film world and his life as a writer – along with encounters with well-known contemporaries, friendships and love affairs. Written in the clear, precise prose for which Salter is celebrated.
